For anyone wondering how others have fared with chantix. Looks like may of us are still smoke free. Yay us!

Thank You Alohakela!
I took the full dosage for the first month, and then on my fifth week a cut the pm dose in half, just to tone down the vivid dreams. And I have been taking that dosage since then. I will talk to my doctor, but maybe four more weeks to cut the dose every two weeks will work. It is a great bump!

Hi Aloha, I ran into my soccer mom/doctor friend at the mall, Christmas shopping. She was extremely happy for me and my quit!! I told her that I cut back to one Chantix a day and she said to be sure to stay on it for the full recomended 12 weeks to insure my success! Ah, Moss...that is such a great illustration of the phrase, You have to want to not smoke more than you want to smoke. You obviously wanted to be a nonsmoker more than you wanted to smoke. You really are well on your way. And, yes, at times it is much more complex than just not smoking. Lots of changes come with not heading towards the relief of a cigarette when dealing with life situations. On the other hand, it is just as simple as not lighting up. Joid, I'm curious to know why your doctor friend recommended the full 12 weeks. And, yes, weaning seems to have worked well for many of us. Also, some of us experienced some increased urges after stopping, but nothing as bad as those first weeks. Some of us have also kept a few in reserve, and used them during especially stressful times. Those people have said it helped. Placebo effect or real, sounds like a good idea to me. I still have a few in my drawer, kind of "In Emergency, Break Glass" kind of thing.
