Stress slips

Well I have found that stress is a big trigger. When I was smoking Id say dam I have to leave and go have a smoke just to cool down or rethink a situation. Learning to get through this without smoking is going to be hard. I haven't slipped and I am really wanting this more than anything I have ever wanted in life except maybe having my mom back (who died in Sept of Lung cancer at 59 yrs old). I guess i am doing this for me to prove I can succeed at something so difficult and for her. But dang its hard these withdrawals really get hard some times and so do the cravings and it seems they sneak up on you. Ive tried the quit before but with such dedication as this time around. All is well for now, good night. Yes wazzdo stress is a HUGE trigger and you need to have a list of distractions available to you at the ready so that when any trigger hits you have list on hand. I keep a list of distractions in every room of my home posted on the fridge, my pc, my washroom mirror etc. so that when a crave rears it's ugly head I pick out a distraction (s) and do it (them) immediately. There will always be stress, whether big or small in one's life. It's a guarantee because no one lives in a bubble protected from any or all stressors so it's up to you to squash the craves which follow the trigger's and knock that crave down as quickly as possible. You are a doing a wonderful thing .. YOU QUIT! You are a non smoker and your mom would be very very proud of you as you should be equally as proud of yourself! Keep up the great quit and start building yourself a list of distractions as it will surely help. oh boy....stress is the biggest trigger as far as I am concerned....and I would handle it "somewhat" like I did when I smoked....turn away, back off, regroup, think it through...just do all that while doing something ELSE besides smoking. a walk, a shower, an icey cold drink of water or juice, 3 minutes of alone time to close your eyes and deep breath. You can do this. remember that withdrawal WILL pass. you WILL win the battle Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1868 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 74,753 Amount Saved: $10647.6 Life Gained: Days: 246 Hrs: 11 Mins: 10 Seconds: 16

wazz, Take a look at the support and advice given, keep it close :) Use relaxation techniques during those stressful moments and for bed. Easing into your sleep and getting to bed early will help you be refreshed for the next day. Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
