Gin, Every quit is different. You are handeling this with a positive attitude. If you have a good quit going.....HANG ON TO IT!! Some quits are easier than others. Take one day at a time and think of all the positives about quiting. The best positive of all....is respecting yourself!! Your doing great Mercy ps: Eat a bowl of brown rice.....or prunes work GREAT!! :8o: EXTRA WATER HELPS TOO My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 308 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,160 Amount Saved: $1,376.76 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 10 Mins: 30 Seconds: 56

Thanks for the acknowledgement. I really appreciate it. I just started taking the herbal laxative so it will take time to work I'm sure. I'm also eating fruit which should help. This is my 3rd day now and things aren't too bad. I do want a cigarette but not enough to go to the store and buy some. Maybe I'm over the worse...who knows. Gin, This is not a pretty symptom, but it does happen. In fact it happens quite frequently when quitting. Smoking speeds up your bodies metabolism so when you quit it slows down leading to constipation. This is also a contributing factor to a lot of quitters weight gain. Feeling light-headed is also a symptom of quitting. You body is starting to have access to a lot more oxygen and this can lead to the feeling. How long will this last? The constipation could last anywhere from a few weeks to just a couple of days. Feeling light-headed should last for only a few days to a week. Tips to help with the constipation: Eat lots of roughage, like raw fruits, vegetables, bran and cereal. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day and try to exercise regularly. Taking a herbal laxative could also help but make sure you talk with a pharmacist to ensure that it will not conflict with any other medicine you may be taking. You could also try drinking green tea which can help to move things through your bowels a bit. If these symptoms persists or seems to worsen, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable. I think it's a common problem, and thanks for bringing it up. I wasn't sure if it was just me but looks like it is more common that I thought. Let me know how that herbal laxative works. Good tip about adding more veggies, I should be doing that anyway. Have a great smoke free day too! Doesn't it feel amazing? Really pay attention to how your body is feeling today, you will be amazed at how much better you start to feel without cancerous fumes going into our lungs. Congrats on your success so far! Hey Gin, just as there are alot of different people there are alot of different symptoms. I do recall some people having constipation, and excess gas was alos a concern for a lot of quitters! Try to up your veggies more, double duty, they will add more fibre for you diet and also keep the hand to mouth habit busy! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 262 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,550 Amount Saved: $2,764.10 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 1 Mins: 54 Seconds: 38

Well, this is my second day and I'm hanging in there. I dread the thought of going through the 3rd day from past experience. I don't want to go through it again, so I'll abstain from smoking even if it kills me. I'm more focused but lightheaded...sounds strange but that's the way it is. I have an empty feeling inside my stomach which I didn't have before. I know I'm going through a healing process with all the withdrawal symptoms that are occurring, so I have to persevere. One thing I can't seem to shake is not being easy on myself. I expect to conquer this smoking problem pdq. I know realistically it doesn't work that way. I have one symptom that I hate to bring up...it's embarrassing but I wonder if it was the same way with you guys with being constipated. I'm having a heck of time with it. It started 2 days ago and it happened when I quit before. Is it just me or is it a common symptom? I'm taking a herbal laxative and I hope it will work. I must say this Center and you people are a great support for me. I also have a friend who's quit 20 years now who's helping me too. I'm really lucky to have friends like you. Now, I just have to stay away from the nicotine monster and take it one craving at a time. I'm on the patch which is helping me quite a bit this time. Chantix made me too lethargic and sleepy. Have a great smoke free day.
