Beckylynn, Good for you for distracting and delaying your cravings. Stay focused on the 4 D's; Drink Water, Delay, Deep Breath and Distract to help you through your cravings. Jim also made some good suggestions to help you get through. Taking a short brisk walk (or run up the stairs) will get your heart pumping and adreneline circulating creating a similar sensation to having a cigarette. You can also try to keep your hands and mouth occupied by chewing on gum, cinnamon sticks, straws or other candies. Start to plan some rewards for yourself too and work towards getting them. Look through the program and read the section on rewards, there is some great information to help you through. Stay strong. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

Hey Beckylynn!! You CAN do this!!! When you are having a real bad craving episode, get away from the area you are in, if possible!!! Drink some ice cold water and take some deep breaths!!! One thing that really helped me at work, was to go walk about 4 flights of stairs... up and down, while taking deep controlled breaths!!! The cravings were gone by the time I completed the stairs!!! It was a healthy thing for me to do, also!!! Another thing that will help is to distract yourself somehow to keep your mind off from wanting to have a cigarette!!! Positive Mental Attitude!!! YOU CAN DO THIS !!!! Grit your teeth and fight that nico-demon!!! Need help. One of the sugesstions was to post when I had a craving, and wait for 5 responses. I am trying anything I can think of. Maybe I am dwelling on it too much, I don't know. HELP

Hi All, just to let all you quitters know that I'm still a quitter (yeah)!!! Passed my 2 yr barrier recently without any cravings. The most important need to have's when your quitting is: Have support - the site, friends and family, etc.; Have the will to really stop - and stick with it; and Get something to keep you occupied when you're in front of the tv or something. I started knitting and it worked very well, knitting when I was watching tv, when visiting with friends (who luckily understood), in the car when hubby was driving... Well, it worked Good luck :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/10/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 742 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 19,292 Amount Saved: $10,017.00 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 15 Mins: 13 Seconds: 5
