question for patch users

Hi everyone. I've been on the patch for 4 weeks now. Started with the 21mg and after two weeks switched to the 14mg. I felt like I could always taste nicotine in my mouth and thought if i switched it would help. It did and now that its been two weeks again I've got that taste back. Did anyone else have this? Or is it just the nicodemon trying to get me to smoke? Maybe its time for me to go down to 7mg but i'm just not sure i'm ready to handle the emotions and crankiness that go along with that yet My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 798 Amount Saved: $109.76 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 4 Mins: 48 Seconds: 28

I was on the patch for a while. I recently stopped using it. I have noticed a strange taste since I stopped smoking. Maybe just because I actually have taste buds now, but it was an unpleasant, almost stale taste. It has kind of subsided since I stopped the patch. Either way, I think the majority of it is in our heads. The patch worked wonders for my cravings. I highly recommend it. Sillyme, Members will be along soon to share their experiences with you. Do what you think will help you keep your quit and keep in mind that each time you step down your body readjusts to the new level of nicotine. Keep strong, Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

Silly, what you say about the taste in your mouth is very interesting, I have never heard of such a thing. I have been on the patch for the past 3 weeks (21mg) and I just took it off a few days ago. I didn't taste anything in my mouth I just wanted to be free of needing the patch. I think that if you put your mind to it and agree with yourself that it won't be that bad, you can just go cold turkey. this will for sure get that taste out of your mouth...yuck. kat My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 453 Amount Saved: $110 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 12 Mins: 0 Seconds: 13

Hi Sillyme, I did use the patches, and although this didn't happen to me, I have heard stories of other quitters who used the patch and experienced something similar......even to the point of saying they could "smell" nicotine on their skin (or coming "through" their skin!). Is it real or just psychological? Who knows! My take on it would be that if the "taste" isn't bothering you too much .....stick with the programme and carry on with the patches!
