yes, Panda, DL is a very interesting person. He is an important part of our support system. He has had enough ups and downs to have an good understanding of people and of MDD.

You sound like a very interesting person Mr.Llama.In time I will hopefully get to know you better, once I get over my initial reticence of opening up and also opening the door of my self-imposed "safe place"

(cont'd) Although we are in a virtual world on DC here, I feel that freedom to speak and to hear the members speak and know that I am in august company - with people who are the essence of kindness and concern and who give and take without judgement; whose experiences are not dictatorial precepts but just clear statements of "what happened to me..." This is not just another 'site' - it is a very important place to 'be' with my fellows without let or hindrance. Thanks for being here all of you

(cont'd) Despite those feelings it has taken me years to slim-down my "friends" to just a few who are clear about the vagaries of the depressive state and who make allowances for 'not showing up' in mind or body for gatherings. These are the people (three, maybe four, maximum) who are aware, principled, listeners, sharers, balanced people, with whom I can laugh and joke and live and cry and educate myself and educate them without competitiveness, without misunderstandings, without fear of judgement.... That's enough - just a few friends later

fleursh, welcome ! I think it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between being reclusive and depressed and loving being alone and 'quiet'; especially if you've had a lifetime of low- to high-level depression. The constancy of the feelings of anomie or weltschmerz don't always go away...

Fleursh, Welcome to the Depression Center! We encourage you to begin working through our program tools and reading through past discussions. It's great that you've taken that huge first step. Our members will be along shortly to share their experiences on the subject. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi, I'm fleursh, in my early 40s. I've battled depression since I was 18, but can recall episodes starting at age 7. This time around is extra frustrating--I'm in a great spot in my life with lots of good stuff going on! I've been looking for a resource like this, although I have to be careful because I use my home PC to "hide," just like sleeping all day. One of my current issues is sharing with people that I'm depressive, and asking for help. I have a lot of shame and difficulty asking for help connected to this, (you know, the super-independent child of alcoholics). This week I reached out to two people of authority in my life with good results. Now, if I could just tell my friends... Just reading the comments in this section is very encouraging--you're a great group. I just hope I can give as much as I can get! Thanks for being here. q.
