Thank you. It is nice to know I am not alone. I find it strange out of all the encouraging support groups I have joined and tried to interact with this is the first time anyone has ever responded to me. You all don't know how important and encouraging it is just to be acknowledged.

Welcome to the online support community and know that we are here for you. Please do work through the program, it can and does help tremendously. It sounds like you have been through so much, but do know that you can enjoy your life and be happy.It may take time but you have taken a huge step in your journey of life. Post often and know that you are not alone.

I am seeing a psychiatrist now. She has been trying to find the right medications for me. I am not able to see a therapist right now because I cannot afford one. I have no insurance and am not in a position right now that I could work. I rarely am able to leave my home. I guess I joined this group because I felt that self help and understanding what I am going through right now is better than sitting in my house thinking about why I should keep on living. I am married to a wonderful man, but he cannot understand what I am going through. He tries, but to him if you are sad you just get over it. He does not want to hear me. I think that maybe it is just his way of trying to cope with my past. He says I should just count this as the first day of my life and move on. I am hoping here I will find others that understand what depression does tosomeone and help me to find a way out.

I can't even imagine what you have gone through, or what kind of person could do that to someone else.

This is a good place for you to be, I think, but as Ashley said, please try to see someone in person. I'm pretty sure that would provide a lot of benefit.

If I were to give advice, which I'm not at all qualified to do, it would be this: Remember, whatever happened was not your fault. You were the victim. And you are a better person than they can ever be.

Welcome tmattes13,

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you. You did not deserve that and it angers me to know people who were supposed to protect you treated you as they did. That being said it is motivational to see that you are striving to find happiness and that you are the caring open person that you are. You inspire me.

Have you talked to a counselor or looked for other resources that could help you? The depression center is a great CBT tool and can help you with problems in thinking that affect your mood. In regards to coming to terms what happened in your past we are all open to listen here but I also encourage you to seek out a professional to discuss all you have been through.

I am new to this site. I have tried other sites but most seem to be not for me. I have suffered from depression most of my life. I was abused by my mother and stepfather until I was twelve when my stepfather sold me to his dealer. I lived for many years as a possession until finally escaping in 2001. Yes things like this still happen in the United States. I am not from some other country. I am trying to learn to cope with my past. I thought that if I just buried it deep enough it would go away. As you all know it doesn't. I am trying to hold onto that small flicker of light that promises there is a future for me. I like talking to other people and am a good listener.
