Hi Missy! Interesting about the nicotine leaving the body. My doc has told me it takes 1 week for it to clear the body but if it is crystalized in the bladder, it could take longer thus the whole reasoning for drinking TONS of water to flush out the crystals. Hi K! I cornered my doc and asked her all kinds of questions. One of them was nicotine leaving the body. She said the more water we drink, the more it breaks up and elaves hte body. I drink cranapple juice to help break up the crystals too. Not sure if that helps or not, but it is good for me anyhow =) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 91 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,372 Amount Saved: $273 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 1 Mins: 28 Seconds: 26

Kaitilna, On average, it takes three days however this depends on the severity of your dependence. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

So sorry to hear that you are going though a rough time. Please stick with it. The nicotine is leaving your body. Give it a couple more days :) I am wearing a rubber band (two) around my wrist and everytime I thought about a cig or had a crave I snapped it. It hurts like hell. But I just look at it and tell myself "Snap out of it!!" I have gone cold turkey this time and I feel so much better. If it get to rough pop one of those gums, but the sooner you can get rid of the nicotine the better. Now you ask for a recount from me - now stay quit for me (us) YOU ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 98 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 25 Seconds: 25

imallclear, Nicotine doesn't leave your system within 3 or 4 days... that's when withdrawals peak so it's certainly still there and depending on your smoking history, it will be there for some time longer. Patch programs vary depending on how much you smoked before and by brand. Don't worry if you need the longer program. We smoked for years... use patience in making your quit solid and successful. In my opinion, you're at a fragile stage in your quit so if there's ANY miniscule risk whatsoever that you could fail without staying with your chosen NRT program, then you should continue it. It's simply not worth the risk of smoking again. Period. Believe me, remembering to put a patch on every day isn't near the hassle of treatment for cancer! Since you've been on the lower dose for a while, you may want to speak with the pharmacist or doctor about how to continue. Like said before me... Whatever it takes, just don't smoke :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 687 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,748 Amount Saved: $2452.59 Life Gained: Days: 72 Hrs: 18 Mins: 46 Seconds: 51

The junky in you that is a pal of this addiction does NOT just go away when the nicotine is out of your blood stream. He hangs on for some time....looking for opportunities to take over your thinking and then your actions. When he enters your head, you must use some sort of coping techniques to MAKE him leave. At the least you must distract yourself from listening to him. If you can't maintain without the patch (was it better when you were still on it??) then by all means get BACK on it. I used patches for a total of almost 4 months...I felt helpless when faced with cold turkey....it scared hell out of me....the patches were just the thing to give me the edge against this addiction. DON'T SMOKE!!!! Do whatever it takes to accomplish that. Using an aid for an extended period of time is MUCH better than loosing and going back to smoking Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1812 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 72,492 Amount Saved: $10328.4 Life Gained: Days: 236 Hrs: 9 Mins: 17 Seconds: 2
