I've gained weight too. I try to get to the gym as much as possible but my work schedule just doesn't permit a lot of gym trips. I've tried to change my diet towards more salads, etc. I have a lot going on right now. I just don't have time or energy to worry about weight. What a wonderful thing to do with your quit money though! New clothes! When I get done with replacing some worn out equipment, my next earmark for the quit money is new clothes! That's why I can't quit, I've already spent the quit money and I won't disappoint myself like that.

Hey Jaws and Changing I too have some a few pounds since starting the quit. I am an extreamly self-conscience person to begin with, so the weight gain has gotten to me pretty bad at times. All I can say is, stick with it. You can only do so much on your own and it's better to tackle one thing and succeed, than to tackle two and fail. You will be able to lose the weight, just like you were able to quit smoking. You just need to stick with it and know that it's going to get better. And when you are able to stand up to the scales and face that demon, you will be a success there as well. Jaws, I can relate...boy can I relate! I have gained quite a lot since I quit - I don't know how much because I'm too scared to step on the scale. I'm ashamed of how I look and fell extremely self-conscious. I had lost a bunch of weight over the past year, now I feel bigger than I did before that. I do think a lot of it is bloating/water retention, and plan to talk to my doctor about it. (And, it doesn't help that I've been constipated for the past 34 days!) Now here's the kicker... Before I quit, my boyfriend told me that he had 2 "concerns" about me...concerns that were effecting how he felt about me/our future. #1 was my smoking and #2 was my weight. Now explain to me how I'm suppose to quit smoking and lose weight at the same time!!! He's been very supportive in my quit and hasn't mentioned anything about my ballooning weight...I can only imagine what he thinks! So, as you can see, the whole issue of smoking & gaining weight is very significant & difficult for me. But, despite how disgusted I feel about my body right now, I'm going to keep fighting the nicodemon and will not smoke! I believe that once my body gets used to being smoke-free and totally stabilizes, I WILL lose the weight I've gained. I once read in a post - it's better to live in a moo-moo than die in a bikini! ;p So let's you & I get through this together - WE CAN DO IT! Jaws, You have to understand that your body is undergoing a major change. You will indeed be irritable, gain some weight and even feel a little under the weather at certain times. Visit your doctor weekly and he or she will guide you in a safe direction when quitting smoking. As for the weight gain increase your water intake and eat more small meals during the day. Cut up fruit and veggies and store them in the fridge. Try some almonds as well. Have these snacks handy and in reach when you are feeling "empty". Depending on where you are from, get outside and go for a few brisk walks a day. Enjoy a nice bath and a hot cup of something before bed. Remind yourself everyday that you are making the right decision. Keep a journal and look back on it in weeks to come. This will show you how far you have come. We are all here to assist you and we will help you achieve your goal. Hang in there! Melanie ____________________________ The SSC Support Team

I have been out of this area for a while. I started here with the motivation and desire to quit. Unfortunately, things got bad once again. I was on and off for the last month. I think the longest I went was one week without a cigarette. I feel very bad. I don't even understand why I went back to it again in the first place. The week that I didn't have one, I felt wonderful. I was feeling very good about myself and was ready for my smoke free life. Then, something happened to make my world come crashing down and I went back. I call it...weight gain. I got scared and didn't want to gain weight. I can't fit into any of my clothes. I was told at work recently that my clothes are too tight and that I have to get new ones. Well, first of all....I'M BROKE!!! I can't afford new clothes right now. I did get back to quitting. But, now I'm scared of gaining more weight and being irritable all the time. I don't like being emotional and fat!! My boyfriend says he can handle this, but, I'm not too sure he means it. I don't want to slip again. I just want to be healthy again. :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 328 Amount Saved: $116.8 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 8 Mins: 4 Seconds: 46

Jaws, First off, well done on the not smoking. It takes a lot of effort and dicipline to keep a quit and I am sure that the boyfriends who watch the scale for you are not helping. That would p*** me off like no other. I think my boyfriend knows better than to ever mention my weight gain as unacceptable or as being a concern...hello I am quitting smoking!!!! lol. what a joke, he would be on the couch faster than he could explain himself. love, kat My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 172 Amount Saved: $40 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 54 Seconds: 50
