Thanks, I'm going to try taking the Zyban right after dinner as opposed to later in the evening. I may take some melatonin too to help me sleep better. D, Yes, sleeping disturbances are quite common among new quitters. As a smoker, nicotine increased your metabolism and other processes, therefore robbing you of your energy. Now that you've quit, your body has a surplus of energy and doesn't need as much sleep to recharge itself. The following tips may help you get back on schedule: Try to get on a sleep schedule. Go to bed at a regular time each night and get up at a regular time in the morning. Try to not stay up late watching TV and try not to sleep during the day. If you get on a sleep schedule, we guarantee that youll begin to feel better. Try to make the room you sleep in as quiet as possible. Consider ear plugs or a sleep mask. Use your bed only for sleeping. Dont lounge around in your bed. If you spend too much time lounging in bed, watching T.V., drinking coffee, or eating, your body will learn that your bed is NOT a place for sleeping. If you cant sleep after half an hour in bed dont stay in bed trying to sleep. Get up and do some quiet activity. For example, read a book for a half hour and then try going back to bed. If you still cant sleep, get up and do something quiet once again. Try to keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature - not too cold and not too hot. Try to get some exercise every day. Youll feel better and sleep will come much quicker. Try not to exercise or work hard late in the evening. It could make you feel wired. Dont drink anything with caffeine or alcohol for 4 hours before you go to bed. Try not to eat a heavy meal in the evening. Dont eat just before you go to bed. If youre not sleeping at night, avoid naps during the day. Use relaxation techniques. Box breathing may help you relax at bed time. Yep, no sleep, up half a dozen times to the bathroom, crying, sweating, nervous, bad moods. I remember them all and I had them all. Somehow I don't remember when I started loosing them. It just gradually seemed to get better then boom a bad day or two and back to better. The bad days and nights are getting further apart for me. I like being a non-smoker. Hi D Yes sleep disturbance is common during smoking cessation. Zyban will also give some sleep disturbance. In a previous attempt, I had to make sure to take the second pill early in the evening, which seemed to help. I still am having difficulties with sleeping. I often use over the counter sleep aids. You can always contact your physician if it is something that lasts too long and you are concerned. D - It looks like you answered your own question. ;) I had the worst time sleeping the first week or so. It was just like you said...sleep for an hour, wake, sleep for an hour... It was quite frustrating as I had never, ever had problems sleeping before in my life. But, it was gone very quickly and I was sleeping just as well as I had been prior to quitting. You know, now that I'm thinking about it, I might actually be waking up easier than I did prior to quitting as well. hmm. Anyway, as you said, it's normal and it will pass. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,170 Amount Saved: $228.15 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 12 Mins: 33 Seconds: 33

Found this info: Insomnia and frequent awakening from sleep are common side effects of tobacco withdrawal, which can also affect mood and daytime sleepiness. Since insomnia and other withdrawal symptoms are distressing and disabling, they make it harder to stop smoking and contribute to the continuation of smoking. Sleep disturbance is likely due to the effects of nicotine, the active component in cigarette smoke, on brain chemical (neurotransmitter) pathways that normally regulate the sleep-wake cycle. Sleep disturbances are a significant problem for smokers who are trying to quit smoking. Smokers may be more likely to have sleep problems and both nicotine withdrawal and agents used to aid smoking cessation (e.g., pharmacotherapies) may disrupt sleep. Lunesta (eszopiclone) is a medication that has been approved by the FDA to treat insomnia. Eszopiclone's efficacy for treating insomnia makes it a promising agent for treating nicotine withdrawal-related symptoms of sleep disturbance. Anyone else have trouble sleep the first week? This is my 3rd day smoke free. I'm on Zyban. The last two nights I couldn't sleep very well. I'd fall asleep for an hour, then wake up and this repeats all night long. Also last night I probably got up 6 times to go to the bathroom as if the water was just running out of me. Anyone experience these types of symptoms? They don't concern me but I hope I'm able to sleep better soon.
