I am lost (I think)

Hello! I understand you, I think. When I quit, I pretty much despised everything. My job, my boyfriend, my friends who weren't there, my body, my personality, my life in general. Now, it seems that there were 2 reasons: 1) Depression from nicotine withdrawal and changing your habits, tension etc.- yes, it has passed, mostly 2) Annoyance about things that you needed ciarettes to cope with- and now they are gone... like my job- which I am going to switch Good luck!! Kitty, I have said a million times that quitting is a soul searching, life changing experience. I'm not the same person I was when I smoked and I'm glad of it. The fact that there was a world out there that non-smokers enjoyed that I knew nothing about was a revelation to me. Non-smokers go to movies and don't have to leave in the middle. They can go to dinner and sit there and talk for hours afterwards. They can hold babies, hug and snuggle without stinking. They can breath when they walk and run and play without coughing all the time. Those are just some of the physical changes. The mental changes... Oh my. I can't even begin to explain everythign that entails. Everyday is a new adventure. I don't think of anything the same way anymore. I was bitter and not a lot of fun to be around before I quit. It was just me and my addiction. I must say that now I live my life and that is my new "normal". One day at a time, one step at a time. You are on an adventure of a lifetime! Be glad you chose this journey. There is nothing to go back to and nothing to regret. kittys Hang tough there, you are in effect changing who you are and the birthing process can be frought (sp) with difficulty. Don't forget that you are not alone, others have been along this road and faced it effectively. Much of addiction recovery is hammered out on the anvil of individuality. All of us quit in our own way. The beginning is all fire and smoke, but eventually the intensity of the experience diminishes and you will be engulfed in a protective cloud of pride. Once you get your feet, you will find that the act of facing down such an addictive drug will enable you to move forward. It will not always seem such a difficult thing... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 397 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,910 Amount Saved: $4,168.50 Life Gained: Days: 74 Hrs: 0 Mins: 27 Seconds: 32

Yes we think about our personal relationships between our partners, close friendships & work collegues & yes we may realise that some of these relationships weren't what they were cracked out to be.... so be it. Every thought is different, every decesion we make is different, even our outlook on life is different. You quit smoking, you will see. Hey Kittys! I know about smoking a long time and wondering what normal is like. I smoked for 37 years, started when I was sixteen. But you know what, we have only forgotten what is normal. Smoking isn't normal, we were killing ourselves with nicotine, a herbicide. So going back to it is not going to make anything better, is it? It feels weird at first, only because smoking is such a repetative habit, and of course its gonna take some time to get through that habit thing. But there is a wonderful freedom waiting for you. You will find your self again, and you may be surprised at how remarkable this journey can be. You will learn alot of wonderful things about yourself that you never knew. Stick with us, Kittys, we'll help you through it! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 325 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,125 Amount Saved: $3,428.75 Life Gained: Days: 42 Hrs: 18 Mins: 0 Seconds: 10

kittys, listen to nonic. That poem is absolutely bang on. What you describe is exactly why I call this quit, "the journey to myself". I am becoming who I was supposed to be, the me I am without addiction in my life. I love it, it was worth every bump, every doubt, every tear, every moment of despair and fear. Smoking again is not the answer. The only time it is, is when the question is, "What are you so glad you aren't doing anymore?" You can do it, kittys, you want to do it, and we will help you. Hang in.
