What is in Your Cigarettes?

Hey Vincenza,

No, I do not believe that this will do much to discourage youngsters from experimenting.  Better education and peer pressure will be more helpful, in my opinion.

As far as the FDA's quote, "The FDA recognizes that industry may be unable to meet the deadline due to current testing limitations. In recognition of this, the draft guidance released today identifies 20 HPHCs that are representative of the full list and for which testing methods are well established and widely available."    This is utter Bovine Excrement!  The tobacco companies have chemists working for them and they know exactly what chemicals are in the smoke.  This crap will go back and forth between the tobacco companies and government for years!  It's a great time to be a lawyer for both sides! GRRRRRR!!!!!

Oh thank God, I'm free at last!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

It is fairly common knowledge that cigarettes contain thousands of harmful chemicals (7000+), of which, 93 are known to be associated with causing serious harm to smokers and non-smokers.

The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) has now made it mandatory that tobacco companies list the quantity of some of the ingredients correlated with illnesses such as cancer and lung disease.

Members, what do you think about these new reports?  In your opinion, is it an effective way to help dissuade children and young adults to start smoking?
