Yes, Moss, we shouldn't give up. Went to my meeting tonight and of all things I was stuck with people outside smoking. It nearly drove me crazy but I held my ground and walked away from there as fast as I could. I'm drinking water right now and feel a little bit better. I think I'll sleep good tonight. Going to go to bed early. All have a good night. Gin, Isn't it surprising to be having a great day and then , WHAM,. I keep thinking we should be getting over that. Freedom26 is about a week in front of us and I believe her. The worst is almost over. We will be looking at 2 weeks real soon here. Let's not give up now. What is JFDI Unhooked...never heard of it. I'm on my 10th day and things aren't as bad as they were earlier. I know I just have to let time go by and I'm OK again. I'm going to a meeting tonight so that will help me keep my mind off smoking. I've got a meeting tomorrow night and Sunday night too which is great. Thanks for all your support guys. Talk to you all later. Gin, I see a lot of "hoping" & "trying my best" in your posts. Hoping & trying aren't going to do it. YOU have to do it. It is not easy, if it was, everyone would do it. Expect it to be hard, and expect it to be worth it. Look at craves as a good thing because each one is closer to the last one. Be positive about all you have and will gain instead of feeling deprived of something that never did you any good anyway. REWARD yourself. You have a wealth of information and support here, take advantage of all of it, use all of it, try everything until you find the best way for you to DO this, not HOPE to do it & not TRY or do it. In the immortal words of outr wonderful Pen, JFDI! I am currently on the patch and am feeling like the hardest part is over. I am going to continue the program for at least 8 weeks to ensure that this is my only quit ever! I am determined to make this happen, and I can't tell you how much the patch has helped me through it. We are similar in days and I can tell you that it does get easier and you start to crave less and think about smoking less every day. Stick with the patch and continue having a positive attitude about this and it will definetely work! So yes it is a mindset and that is why the workbook is useful because you can determine why you smoke, what your triggers are and why you don't want to be a smoker. Doing a lot of positive self talk helps as telling yourself how happy you are to not be smoking is much more helpful to battle those cravings as opposed to "this is so hard". I really think you can do this by just reminding yourself why you quit in the first place and confirming the benefits. Plus you have Sue in one hand and some tasty rewards in the other, so she's right you have no free hands to smoke with. (love your post, Sue!) It does get easier, just hang in there to get through the next couple of days and then soon you'll realize that many more days have gone by. Cravings can be strong, but you know that you are much stronger than they are. Don't give up now and then have to go through this all over again, 10 days is a great accomplishment and should show you that you can do this. It can be done, and you are doing it! Good luck to you, and remember to reward yourself! Trust me it does get easier, and I'm sure anyone on here will agree to that. Congrats on 10 days!!!!!!! Gin, you are right...it IS a mindset. You have to set your mind that you are not going to let anything, any thought, or any person come between you and your quit. Day 10 was difficult for me as well, and it was Christmas Day which I promptly ruined for everyone. But the next day the sun came out and I felt like a new person. It may not work on exactly that timetable for you, but please hang in there because better times ARE ahead. Thanks everybody. I did read the Self-Help Talk thread and it was really good. But I'm still having problems. I know it's a mindset thing isn't it? It's taking everything out of me not to go and buy a pack of cigs, but I have to talk myself out of it. It's for my health. I hope it gets easier later today. Gin, Look up the thread on self talk! You need to change that litle voice in your head! Stop telling yourself its so hard! You are over the worst! "Its getting better and easier every day!" "I am doing it, I am a non smoker!" Or "Yippee I am a non smoker!" Try positive thinking for just one day and see if it makes a difference. My bet is yes it will! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 270 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,750 Amount Saved: $2,848.50 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 23 Mins: 27 Seconds: 46

Gin, I did the patch from start to finish...I think it was over about 8-10 weeks, but different courses are slightly different. Now regardless of whether you are using a patch or not, you are withdrawing from nicotene addiction. As you rightly note, the patch takes a bit of the edge off it, but you are still receiving a much lower dose than when you were smoking. There is no magic bullet, but the first 10 days or so are definitely the worst....and look you are already at Day 9. I would just urge you to hang on and do everything you can to just get through 1 day, or 1 hour at a time. Don't think too far ahead, just concentrate on 1 day and how the hours break down. I don't care what you have to do to distract yourself (I did washing walls and decorating!, and lots of sleeping, and lots of baths with nice smelly stuff). MOST importantly, make sure you have something to look forward to for each day or week, whether it is a bunch of flowers, a bar of chocolate, an expensive sandwich that you would not normally choose. Whatever! You are doing so great with those 9 days!
