Rough Day 9

Gin, chocolate is a great reward. I didn't do the patch, you are right that is a tough way to quit, my office mate did it 18 months ago before chantix came out. But it is do-able and I am happy to do this with you, so if you have chocolate in one hand and my hand in the other you have no free hands right? ;p Keep posting and holler if you need help. Hi Sue No, I haven't really rewarded myself yet. I had a huge chocolate bar today or I finished it. I'm not nicotine free yet, since I'm on the patch. But I know it's not much nicotine that you take in...just 1 mg every hour...miniscule. That's why I have cravings and it hits me pretty hard, but I've been pulling through so far. The patch is just taking the edge off a bit, not very much I have to admit. But that's ok, I don't want to be dependent on the patch. I'll do the program as it's ordered and than quit using them. I'm relieved from the craving now and I hope it sticks a while. Darn it I'm trying to do my best. Thanks a bunch all for the feedback. I will journal Rusty. It won't hurt to do it. It's not getting easier but night time is approaching and I can sleep the craving away. I dread though the morning. I just hope the craving won't be hanging over my head then. You all have a good night. Hey Gin, I don't know what it is about that 9th and 10th day but, for me it was a really hard time. Maybe even worse than the first couple days. I remember feeling so discouraged that after getting thru hell week and feeling so much better for a few days that I could, once again, feel so bad. The good news is it lasted only a couple days and since then every day has been a little easier. Don't get discouraged, Gin. There have been several of us that have experienced a couple really hard days right around this time. Best I can figure it is fatigue. Hang in there, treat yourself well and take it one moment at a time if you have to. Remember your coping tools and give yourself credit for doing this really worthwhile thing. The fast track to feeling so much better is right around the corner. I promise! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 96 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,880 Amount Saved: $561.60 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 15 Mins: 8 Seconds: 23

Gin- I know just how you feel, just 5 days for me, and each one has been hard. What I have found helps me is to tell myself over and over again that it's the addiction talking, and that I am stronger than the addiction. I repeat it over and over until the urge passes. I sometimes have to do that numerous times a day, but it has kept me from smoking. Good luck, you can do it. Gin, you are stronger than you think. I do understand very well where you are at. That monster will only get bigger if you let him. You must be feeling like everything is tearing at your countenance. Withdrawal and cravings can be he!!, but you can do this. Instead of thinking how hard this is, think of what you wonderful gift you are giving yourself. Just know you are not alone. Many of us have been just where you are at and we do understand. Hang tough. Gin, First, congrats on Day 10! A lot of the craves and triggers can be shaken off by really, truly embracing your new life and getting excited about it. It is a bit scary and can be uncomfortable but you are doing the most positive thing for your life - that's AWESOME! What are you enjoying about being smokefree? Shaking up your routine is good so going to the coffeeshop was a good solution. What about doing things you wouldn't or couldn't do as a smoker? Go into a store and smell candles, buy one for a reward. Take a walk around the block. Rent a movie marathon. Do stuff that you love. It is different for everyone but it doesn't have to be a battle, it can be a challenge that you are winning! You have made it this far and that proves you are a tough cookie and although it may not feel like roses and sunshine every minute, every hour you put behind you is a triumph. Let yourself be proud of what you are doing! We are rooting for you Gin :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1211 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24,220 Amount Saved: $5,449.50 Life Gained: Days: 92 Hrs: 11 Mins: 27 Seconds: 31

Gin, I think you might find it helpful to keep a journal, if you aren't already. If you did start a journal, go back and read your reasons for quitting and how you felt the first few days. Use it to reinforce how far you've come with your good work. If you didn't start one, do it now. Start with the reasons that you quit smoking in the first place. Write down exactly what happened on Day 1, how you felt on Day 2, what you did when you had cravings. Be sure to write about the good stuff, too -- did you have a really good meal or an excellent thought even? Put in your journal threads that spoke to you, quotes that you've found, anything that speaks to this growth process you are going through. Your journal can be on the computer (mine is) or in a scrapbook. No rules...it's yours and however you want to do it is just fine. Journaling is an excellent way to connect your conscious with your subconscious, your feelings with your thoughts. Sometimes magical things happen but most of the time it just feels good to get your thoughts and ideas down. It also is an excellent way to occupy yourself....I spent hours on the internet looking up quit information, inspiration sites and so on. Many of the things I found are now in my journal and nearly three years later I still look back at them. Good luck! Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1081 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 30,268 Amount Saved: $3,783.50 Life Gained: Days: 152 Hrs: 11 Mins: 50 Seconds: 53
